Homeschooling is legal in every state, but the laws and regulations vary greatly. Reading summaries and talking with other homeschooling families is a good way to get an idea of what the laws are in a particular state and how they are interpreted and enforced. But be sure to also check out the actual state statutes or code and the state's Department of Education to find out exactly what the law says about homeschooling. The following pages provide links to the U.S. state Departments of Public Education and state statutes. It may take some digging (or clicking through links) to find what you want on these pages, but they're a good place to start. |
